I'm Lissa. I'm a 21-year-old college student living in St Louis, MO. This is my journey to get in shape, to become healthier, and to love my body.
Nike Training Club App
Destroyed my legs on Monday (4/23—for my own records).
The workout includes squats, split jumps, squat jumps, lunges, side lunges (I think that’s it). I could only finish the circuit twice (10 minutes total). I walked across campus to my banquet last night and by the time I got there, the muscles in my calves were visibly shaking.
Haven’t been this sore from a workout in forever (but I kind of like it).
4/3/12 Food & Exercise Log
My food was within an acceptable amount of calories today (~1600). We’re running pretty low on groceries since Easter break starts on Thursday, so my options have been limited. I haven’t been to the gym, mainly because of my knee and because I was super busy today between classes, meetings, studying, and work. Hopefully I’ll find out why it’s been bothering me when I go home.
I’m so so so ready for this break! I just have to make it through my exam tomorrow. Off to continue cramming now…
Tutoring got cancelled (the professor who was going to drive us forgot to mention that the school is on spring break this week), so I spent the afternoon doing a little homework and watching From Paris with Love (admittedly not the best acting but entertaining enough to keep my attention). I had a meeting at 7:30 and then I hit the gym…I should have known I wouldn’t wake up and go this morning.
15:00 treadmill (incline 13%, speed 4.0)
15:00 elliptical (alternated between levels 10, 11, 12)
Shoulder press 5x35#, 5x45#, 5x55#
Bicep curl 5x35#, 10x45#
Abs (Russian twists, crazy Ivans, toe touches all with a 2kg medicine ball, planks)
My whole body feels like jello in the best way possible (:

Why do I ever put off exercising? Once I actually get there I feel great.
Also, I had a migraine for 2 days and it’s finally gone. Yay!
NSV? Recovery victory?
Today I worked out and didn’t even glance at the amount of calories I burned. In the past, I would stay on the machine until I burned a certain number of calories but not today! I didn’t even realize it until I was doing weights.
17:00 Elliptical (I got bored)
3x5 #35 Tricep press
1x5 #35 Bicep curl
2x5 #45 Bicep curl
2x5 #35 Shoulder press
2x5 #70 Seated row? I don’t know what this one was called
Some abs
2/2/12 Workout Log
Went to the gym last night with my roomie! Normally I don’t have the energy to even think about working out, but Wednesday night I slept from 10:00pm-9:00am, so I was feeling pretty well rested. I love going to the gym with her because she makes me go out of my comfort zone and pushes me when I don’t think I can push through the discomfort.
15:00 Stair stepper
15:00 Elliptical
Walking lunges with 1kg medicine ball to work triceps and biceps
As far as nutrition, I’m not counting calories, but I feel hyperaware of every carb that I put in my mouth. So I suppose my goal for February should be to eat protein at every meal.
My latest obsession is Bollywood/Bhangra
So today I found a Bollywood video (btw, who knew Hulu could be such a great resource for exercise videos?!) and got in a great 40 minute workout. I wasn’t expecting it, but it really got my heart rate up. I really worked up a sweat!
November goals: Week 1 in review
I worked out 4 days last week! That’s 4 out of the 15 days that I wanted to get to the gym this month. I’m going to blow this goal out of the water (: I’ve forgotten that dance is something I really love, and it’s a great workout. Even if I have to fork out $25 a quarter to sign up for a dance class, I think it might be worth it. I need to work out for my mental health, and dancing definitely gets my endorphins flowing.
Today also marks day 14 of being on Sertaline (generic Zoloft). I can definitely tell a difference in my attitude. It’s easier for me to be optimistic. I still have negative thoughts, but it seems easier for me to fight them off. I’m not on edge constantly, and I feel a bit mellower.
Now if this cold could just go away…
Floor hockey is a surprisingly good workout
There’s three periods that are 12 (I think) minutes long, and since we only had enough people to make a team, we were running around the entire time. I had been planning to work out afterwards, but I was way too worn out! Plus, a cute boy played on our team. I hope he comes to another one of our games ;)
Just got back from my Advanced Salsa class
OMG SO MUCH FUN. I was scared because 1) I hadn’t taken a salsa class in two years and 2) I signed up alone: it was totally a spur of the moment decision! It was a bit intimidating because the other 5 people in the class all took the Intermediate class earlier this semester and they all knew each other. I’m glad I decided to sign up because I had fun and it was a great workout!
Today was productive
I worked from 9-12, had Cognition at 2 (where I wrote a paper instead of listening to the prof recite the textbook, which he wrote), ran to the grocery store, made egg muffins, did a shit ton of my roomies’ dishes—all before class at 6, and I hit the gym after class at 8:30!
I did L6-10, one minute for each level, and repeated that 5 times. I signed up for an advanced salsa class. I’m kind of nervous because I took the previous two when I was a freshman, so it’s been a while! I like to think I’m a fast learner though (: I’m excited!
Getting to the gym was hard yesterday
I didn’t want to go, and once I got there I realized I had forgotten a hair tie and my iPod. So my hair was everywhere and made me feel extra sweaty and gross, and I was bored out of my mind. I spent a torturous 25 minutes on the elliptical before I just had to call it quits.
At least I got there, right?
Sunday 10/9/11: The day I carb loaded while watching everyone else run
Exercise:
45:00 Elliptical (intervals for 20:00)
1.0 mile run
No clue about my calorie intake, but it was like 90% carbs. I swear I’m a carboholic! My roommate and I volunteered at a 5K/10K run this morning and we were working the food table. There was so much food left over, and, being broke college students, we graciously accepted the piles of food that were given to us. We got bagels and chips, but we also got lots of fruit.
Also, stress apparently makes me bake like a madman. I made pumpkin chocolate chip muffins and banana banana muffins earlier. Friday I made wheat-thins and peanut butter cookies (neither of which turned out, but it was more of a stress reliever haha).
Thursday 10/6/11
Intake:
1,596 calories
243 g carbs
49 g fat
73 g protein
Exercise:
30:00 Elliptical
16:29 1.26 mile walk/run
Squats 2x15 10#
Side lunges 1x10 10#
Some butt exercise from Fitness mag (8 on each leg)
I used dumbbells at the gym today! I felt a little judged by the guys who were lifting when I went to grab them, but ahhh, I did it anyway!
I realized today that I’ve got 4 papers due next week and a midterm on Wednesday. 3 midterms before Fall Break, and when I come back, I’ve got 2 papers and 2 projects due. Arghhh.
